SUMMARY:Roe v. Wade – Rückschritt der USA oder unsere Zukunft?
DESCRIPTION:Am 24. Juni wurden in zwei Ländern historische Entscheidungen getroffen. In Deutschland wurde der Artikel 219a vom Bundestag gestrichen, ein großer Schritt nach vorne für Reproduktive Gesundheit in Deutschland. Am gleichen Tag ging es in den USA durch die Umkehr des 50 Jahre alten Grundsatzurteils ‘Roe v. Wade’, welches das Recht auf einen Schwangerschaftsabbruch in den USA garantierte, zurück in die 1960er Jahre. Das Urteil sorgte national und international für großes Aufsehen.\nAm 22. August werden wir uns im letzten Vortrag des Semesters dem Thema ‘”Roe v Wade“ widmen. Eva Beutin, Juristin aus Aachen, wird uns erklären wie dieses historische Urteil vor 50 Jahren enstand und wie es sein konnte, dass es im Jahr 2022 gekippt wurde. Anschließend wird Pamela Merritt, Direktorin von Medical Students for Choice, erklären was diese Entscheidung für Menschen mit Uterus bedeuten wird und welche Möglichkeiten Medizinstudent*innen und Ärtz*innen haben werden trotz allem Reproduktive Gesundheit zu gewährleisten. Die Vorträge werden auf Englisch gehalten, Fragen auf Deutsch sind aber natürlich genauso willkommen.\nOn the 24th of June two historic decisions were made in two seperate countries: In Germany paragraph 219a was abolished, an important step towards easier access to reproductive healthcare. On the same day in the United States, the Supreme Court overturned the judgement made in the case Roe v. Wade in the 1970s which ensured the legal right to abortion for 50 years.\nOn the 22th of August we would like to dedicate our time to „Roe v. Wade“. Eva Beutin, a lawyer from Aachen will elaborate the background and history behind „Roe v. Wade“ and explain how it was possible to overturn such a historic judgement. Subsequently, Pamela Merritt, Director of Medical Students for Choice, will portray the consequences of this important decision in the US, which will affect people seaking reproductive healthcare and those who wish to provide it.\n
