The exam period has begun. We have compiled a lot of important information about the exams for you. If you have any further questions, you can always contact the student advisory service, the student council or our teaching team at AStA. Otherwise, a look at the comprehensive examination regulations can also help.

Registration/Admission

Check beforehand whether you meet the requirements for admission to the respective exam so that you and the examiners are spared unnecessary work and chaos. You also need to register for each exam via RWTHonline. Do not forget to do this, otherwise you will not be eligible to take an exam. The deadline for many first exams is already 15.01., so you can already check whether you are registered for everything.

Deregistering for exams

You can deregister for an exam up to three working days before the exam. Later deregistration is only possible in case of illness with a medical certificate.

Please note: Quick tests can no longer be accepted!

Only a medical certificate will be accepted as proof of clarification. Please contact the person in charge at the Central Examination Office by e-mail. In order for the deregistration to be carried out, the ZPA needs the following information:

  1. name of the examination
  2. examination date
  3. examiner
  4. room/lecture hall of the examination

All Corona special regulations of the last semesters have been withdrawn.

Arrival at the examination

The examination room should be chosen in advance. Organise your journey in good time so that there are no problems on the day of the exam. Always plan a little extra time before the exam in order to be there on time. Also take into account that public transport can be very unreliable.

Exam protocol

Noise, heat and other general or personal restrictions during the exam can lead to complications. In these cases, the invigilator should always be informed so that this is recorded in the examination protocol. This can then be used as unequivocal proof in the event of conflicts afterwards.

Examination results

The evaluation of an examination must be communicated at the latest six weeks after the examination date, but at least ten days before a second date. If you want to read this in more detail, you can find the deadlines in the ÜPO §10 (7).

Insights

Everyone has the right to inspect their own results. Written objections must either be accepted or rejected with reasons. Students have the right to a copy of the examination [ÜPO §22 (3)], for example in the form of photos. Enough time must be allowed during the inspection. In addition, a third person can attend the appointment and make copies if one cannot appear oneself. A power of attorney must be issued for this purpose.

Free trial regulation

Up to the 3rd university semester, there is the possibility of cancelling three examination attempts as a free attempt [ÜPO §14 (3a)]. Attendance at the examination is important for this. A failure or attempted cheating cannot be cancelled. The cancellation can be applied for at the central examination office after the grades have been announced until 15.05.2023.

Course-specific problems

If you have conflicts with lecturers or other problems that affect your degree programme, please contact the relevant student council. You can find an overview of all student representatives on our website.

Technical problems

If you are taking an online exam (Zoom, Dynexite or similar), you should ask for a telephone number before the exam. This will make communication easier in case something goes wrong. Any potential risks that may occur during the exam – for example, noise or internet problems – should be noted in advance so that they can be logged. In case of doubt, you can refer to the examination protocol if conflict situations arise.

Supplementary oral examination

There is the possibility of taking a supplementary oral examination after the third written examination attempt, should you not have passed. It is important that the examination was taken and that the 5.0 was not the result of deception or neglect [ÜPO §14 (2) or according to §17 (2) ÜPO LAB/ÜPO M.Ed.]. The supplementary examination must be applied for with the examiner directly after the grades have been announced, but at the latest during the inspection.
