Bachelor Thesis – The Status of Alkaline and PEM Electrolysis: A Techno-Economic Review
Your Job:
Hydrogen is seen worldwide as a crucial building block for the transformation towards a sustainable and greenhouse gas-neutral energy system. Electrolysis is the best known and most relevant option for sustainable and efficient production of hydrogen. In addition to alkaline electrolysis, which has been commercially available for a long time, current research is focusing on PEM (polymer electrolyte membrane) electrolysis.
As part of your bachelor thesis, you will research and compare the current and projected techno-economic parameters of AEL and PEM electrolysis. Therefore, you will examine the scientific literature as well as manufacturer data and develop a harmonization approach to enable a comparison of the researched data.
Your tasks include:
- Familiarization with AEL and PEM electrolysis
- Identifying and researching the relevant techno-economic parameters
- Development of a harmonization methodology for the extracted data
- Comparison and visualization of the reviewed data
Your Profile:
You are studying engineering, industrial engineering, energy technology, physics, or a comparable course of study.
You are also characterized by:
- An interest in the challenges of the energy transition and its economic consequences
- An interest in electrolyzers and a basic understanding of how they work
- A high degree of independence and motivation as well as the ability to analyze and implement complex issues
- Ideally first experience in data analysis and visualization
- Very good knowledge of German or English
Our Offer:
We work on cutting-edge innovative topics and offer you the opportunity to actively shape change! With us, you will have the opportunity to build up a deep knowledge of relevant future technologies in what is perhaps the most relevant topic of our century for society as a whole: the energy transition. We support your work and your career through:
- An interesting and socially relevant topic for your thesis with a forward-looking theme
- Highly motivated, international working group in one of the largest research centers in Europe
- Intensive supervision at a flexible workplace (100% remote work possible)
- Excellent scientific equipment and the latest technology
- Flexible working hours and adequate remuneration
