Ulrich Chaussy liest aus der von Ihm veröffentlichen Biografie des Chemikers und Erfinders Arthur Eichengrün. In drei Jahrzehnten Arbeit, die ihn unter anderem in das Hochschularchiv der RWTH führte, rekonstruierte Autor Ulrich Chaussy Eichengrüns Biografie und entdeckte einen der bedeutendsten Chemiker und Erfinder der Kaiserzeit und Weimarer Republik wieder.
Der in Aachen geborene jüdische Tuchfabrikantensohn Arthur Eichengrün studierte Chemie an der RWTH – und wurde Forscher, Erfinder und Unternehmer in Personalunion.
Er synthetisierte Kokain, erfand den unbrennbaren Kinofilm und revolutionierte mit seinem Cellon-Spannlack den Bau der stoffbespannten Flugzeuge und Zeppeline und seinem Erfindergeist verdanken wir das Aspirin.

Ulrich Chaussy reads from his published biography of the chemist and inventor Arthur Eichengrün. In three decades of work, which took him to the university archives of the RWTH, among other places, author Ulrich Chaussy reconstructed Eichengrün’s biography and rediscovered one of the most important chemists and inventors of the imperial era and the Weimar Republic.
Born in Aachen, the son of a Jewish cloth manufacturer, Arthur Eichengrün studied chemistry at the RWTH – and became a researcher, inventor and entrepreneur all in one.
He synthesized cocaine, invented incombustible motion picture film and revolutionized the construction of fabric-covered aircraft and zeppelins with his Cellon stretch varnish, and we owe aspirin to his inventive spirit.
