The Netherlands are classified as a high incidence area as of April 6. The state of NRW provides the following information:

When entering the country from the Netherlands, proof of a current negative test result must always be carried. The test must have been carried out no more than 48 hours before entry. Both PCR tests and PoC rapid tests of an authorized medical service provider as well as self-tests under the supervision of competent personnel are accepted as tests. Proof of testing is accepted both on paper and electronically.

Special rules for cross-border commuters (i.e. persons who regularly cross the border from their place of residence at least once a week for work, study or training):

  • The test may have been taken (instead of 48 hours) up to 72 hours prior to entry.
  • Those who do not have the test upon entry may have it done immediately after entry. This means that the test obligation can also be fulfilled by taking the test at the place of work/training immediately after arrival (self-test under supervision with confirmation) or immediately at a test center.

Test centers in the Aachen area and their test availability can be found at https://testen-in-aachen.de/#/.

The RWTH is currently reviewing the possibility of establishing its own testing capacities for cross-border commuters from the Netherlands. Until then, all cross-border commuters from the Netherlands are requested to make use of a test offer in the Netherlands or in the Aachen area accordingly. If necessary, employees can ask the respective personnel department and students can ask the student secretariat for a certificate of employment or enrollment.

The state of North Rhine-Westphalia has also once again drawn attention to the obligation to register when entering Germany from the Netherlands on www.einreiseanmeldung.de. Exceptions exist for stays of up to 24 hours in NRW.
