Campus gardening

By making our daily surroundings greener, we not only increase the feel-good factor on campus, but also actively influence the design of our city and contribute to increasing biodiversity in urban areas. This allows important insects, such as bees, to find new sources of food. By establishing urban gardening on our campus, we are drawing attention to opportunities for action right on our doorstep.

For this reason, the Sustainability Office is working on projects to promote encounters, participation and the well-being of university members on campus. So far, work has begun on designing the inner courtyard of Humboldt House and building the campus garden between Super C and the Audimax. Students will be able to study and relax there and explore the concept of urban gardening. With the help of interested students, the raised beds will be planted with seasonal vegetables and herbs. In addition, a herb spiral was built during summer semester 21 to beautify the garden and create more space for plants at the same time. An apple tree was planted and several seating areas were created to invite people to linger in the campus garden. Regular meetings are also held to promote exchange between students and to discuss ideas for the continued existence and growth of the campus garden. The implementation and planning of the greening projects is carried out in exchange and cooperation with Department 10.5 and Department 2.2.

The projects from campus greenery are projects from the Department for Sustainability. If you have any questions or comments about the project, you can reach us at nachhaltigkeit@asta.rwth-aachen.de. All projects of the Department for Sustainability can be found here.
