Among the 8,000 students starting their studies at RWTH Aachen University in the winter semester, more than 2,000 first-year students have an international background. For the winter semester 2020/21, the International Office welcomes the new international freshmen with a newly designed virtual welcome and support program, thus ensuring a good start at RWTH Aachen University and in the city of Aachen.
The Welcome Week Session takes place from 01 September to 23 October 2020 and starts with an official kick-off event. Students will receive important information about studying and living in Aachen and will be introduced to the German culture through a short intercultural training. In addition, the Rector Professor Ulrich Rüdiger will award the DAAD Prize 2020 for a particularly committed international student. During the online Welcome Weeks, various virtual information events and presentations will take place, which will specifically address the needs and interests of the international students. Organizational, subject-related and residence law issues are explained in detail by the respective experts. At the digital Freshers’ Fair and the Global Village, students get to know the RWTH’s central administrative offices and the many international student associations. The Immigration Office of the city region and the Citizens’ Service of the City of Aachen are available as external partners. Furthermore, students have the opportunity to get to know the advisors and student councils of their own faculties and ask peer to peer questions at the virtual Faculty Fair. Guided tours of the central campus, guided tours of the university library in small groups, virtual sports activities, intercultural workshops and a variety of social events offered online by student associations provide a diverse and exciting program. Good to know: For latecomers, the Info Service Center of the International Office regularly offers online group counseling on specific topics, where experts are also invited to participate.
