What does the voting right for international students in the local elections here in Aachen actually look like? What are the requirements for the right to vote? What do you have to do for it? First of all, the local elections themselves: You are eligible to vote if

  1. you are at least 16 years old,
  2. you have a valid EU-card and
  3. you are listed on the electoral roll (the notification will be sent by mail).

Students from other EU countries can thus participate in decisions on the composition of the next city council, who will be Mayor and what the Städteregionstag will look like in future.

In addition, you may be able to participate in the elections for the Integration Council independently of this:

For this you or your parents must be able to prove that you or your parents come from another country. You must also be on the electoral roll. You can vote for the Integration Council even if you do not have an EU passport, i.e. you are not eligible for local elections.
